FIRE Tools & Resources I Personally Use and Recommend
To keep our site clean and ad-free, The Good Life Journey is supported by affiliate partnerships for a handful of products I personally use and recommend. If any of them are useful to you, signing up through the links below supports the site at no extra cost to you.
I only list something here if I actually use it (or have researched it thoroughly). The two main criteria I use for selecting affiliates are that I would recommend it regardless of any commission and that it can genuinely save or make the user money. As you can see the list is deliberately short.
| Product | What it's for | Why I recommend it | More info |
|---|---|---|---|
| ProjectionLab * | Retirement and financial-independence planning software. | The tool I use to plan my own path to FI and the more complicated withdrawal phase. It models your entire plan — taxes, account withdrawal order, pensions, life events, changing income or spending over time — and stress-tests it against a century of market history, so you can see your portfolio's odds of success. Intuitive enough to feel like a strategy game. | Read our review |
| Wise * | Multi-currency account for holding, sending, and spending money across currencies. | I mainly use Wise for one-off currency transfers, where it converts near the real mid-market rate — skipping the 2–3% banks hide in their exchange rates. If you live abroad or juggle several currencies it pays off even more: on a $25,000 yearly conversion that hidden margin is about $630, and reinvested over a few decades it can add up to roughly $40,000–60,000. It handles everyday spending and receiving too (see the four different Wise products in the review). | Read our guide |
